Portable GPS Units

This is the most common type of GPS units.

Portable units are great because they can easily and quickly be moved from one car to another car.

They run on the current from the cigarette lighter and so you simply plug it into the cigarette lighter and attach the unit to the dash or to the windshield (often using a suction cup device).

Portable GPS units have larger screens than handhelds.  In addition they are almost always touch screen.

They are intended primarily for driving.
